Alan Bissett “The Moira Monologues”
Tanners Pub, Juniper Green Friday 11th November at 7.30pm
Alan Bissett performs his one-woman play about Moira Bell, a cleaner, a single mother and “the hardest woman in Falkirk”. Returning to the Pentlands Book Festival after last year’s visit, where he went down a storm, Alan’s performance for us of “The Moira Monologues” follows his hugely successful run in the Scottish Storytelling Centre at this year’s EdFringe. So take the chance to meet Moira, a woman who’ll make you laugh, for sure, but, along the way, might cause you to reconsider Scottish class and culture. An award-winning novelist, playwright and performer, Alan Bissett grew up in Falkirk, studied English and Education at Stirling University, and after a short stint as a teacher, returned to Stirling to achieve an MSc in English. To date he’s written three novels, more than ten plays, a documentary and collaborative song, “A Rebel On His Own Tonight”.
