Walk the Malleny Garden and Beyond

Renowned for its peaceful atmosphere, Malleny Garden in Balerno allows quiet contemplation in beautiful surroundings and is a haven for plant lovers thanks to a large variety of colourful and fragrant flowers and shrubs. A decorated wrought-iron gate leads to the walled garden, which opens out to the Four Evangelists – huge 400-year-old yew trees. Victorian greenhouses and heritage rose plantings complete the picture of cultivated calm. On our visit to the Garden, we will hear from the present National Trust for Scotland gardener, James Bell, about the plantings, his challenges and successes. Appreciate the history of the garden, its house and owners, then walk the couple of miles to Currie along the level Lymphoy road to explore the history of the Scott family and their contribution to our landscape’s history. Numbers are strictly limited to 20. There is a charge of £3 (£2.50 for concessions) for entrance to the garden if you are not a member of the National Trust for Scotland.
